Many goals set are for weight loss, work, and our personal life. This is also a great time to plan goals around beauty.

The New Year is a great time for reevaluation, so do not forget the beauty part of your life. Setting goals is a wonderful thing to do and beauty goals can be just as important to your health. Set a goal to attend the dermatologist this year as well as updating and changing your makeup and hair.

Dermatologist visit: Most of us think that a dermatologist visit is just for those with skin issues like rosacea and acne. But it is important to go on a regular basis (regular will probably be different given the circumstances), especially if there is a chance of skin cancer. Set a time that is the most convenient and be prepared for them to check the entire body for moles and their appearance.

Clean Makeup Area and Brushes: When was the last time your makeup bag was cleaned and washed? How long has that lipstick been in the bottom of your purse? Now is the time to gather all of your cosmetics and look through them. Toss anything that you haven’t worn on a regular basis as well as makeup that has expired. If you can’t remember when you bought it…toss it! Set a schedule to do this twice a year so that all the cosmetics that are applied are current and up to date. Clean your makeup brushes. This should be done about every other week. Make a date with your makeup brushes twice a month. They will love you for it!

Change style: The New Year is a great time to re-evaluate your appearance. When was the last time someone complimented your hairstyle? Visit your hair stylist for a suggestion or look through magazines for a new hairstyle or hair color. Have you been wearing the same makeup look since high school? Go in to a Sephora or a department store for a facial. Ask a good glamour girl friend what she thinks of your style. (Prepare yourself for some honesty!) Try a new product such as a highlighter or a lip stain to see how it can update and change your look. Plus, there are so many great makeover shows on television now days that offer great, simple tips that can help with ideas for what suits your lifestyle.

Setting goals is one thing, but reaching them is often too difficult. Make sure the goals set are attainable and that you are ready for change. Depending on the goal, set up a plan monthly or even weekly if needed. For instance, if the goal is to go to the dermatologist this year, set a plan to achieve that goal by doing some of the following: Call your health insurance company to see if the appointment is covered under your current policy. Research what a standard first dermatologist appointment is like so you can be prepared. Ask fellow employees, friends and family which dermatologist they see. Then finally make a call and set the appointment.
