With the new year comes many resolutions, some deep and meaningful, others trivial. These resolutions can include changes to one’s beauty regime. Perhaps a goal is to take less time to get ready in the morning; or the opposite is true and it’s time to invest in a little makeup. Which end of the spectrum you're at, here are beauty resolutions that anyone can follow:
Skin/Face
Find the best skin care routine. It can take a while to test out different cleansers, moisturizers and creams (ask for samples when possible), but when the right products click, skin glows. And glowing skin is the best canvas for any makeup.
Do not pluck or tweeze too many eyebrows. This seems like a cliché, but it’s true. Study recent fashion magazines – brows are clean and shapely, but they are far from skinny. Unsure when to stop plucking? Put the tweezers down, step away from the mirror and come back later. Consult a friend. Or a professional (but beware of tweeze-happy hands there too!)
Eye Makeup
Find the “perfect” eye shadow. Nothing is more fun than experimenting with different shades and brands of shadows. But it’s ideal to have at least one compact (at least two or three shadow colors that are meant to compliment each other) that always looks good. On rushed mornings, little thought is necessary to pick out the right shadow, brushes, and so on. Just grab the go-to shadow, and within mere minutes, eyes are ready to be seen!
Be open to new colors. Now, for the mornings that aren’t a rush… try something new! It can sometimes be difficult to pick eye shadow shades from the sea of possibilities at the store. Many department stores offer complimentary makeup consultations, either by request or on certain promotion days. Makeup representatives or employees will apply makeup and give a written sheet with the brands and colors they used. (No purchase is required, but obviously if the result is good, it can be difficult to resist!)
Lips
Don’t get hung up on “red lipstick”. Advertisements, magazines and television often perpetuate the two following notions: that every woman looks fabulous in red lipstick and that is it the only alluring lipstick. The truth is, many skin tones simply don’t look the best with the reddest of red lips, and red lips also don’t mesh with many of today’s contemporary clothes. Red lips are beautiful, sure, but so are corsets… and how many women run around in those?
Happy New Year!
