Breast Augmentation Cosmetic Surgery

It's Important to Weigh all the Options for Breast Implant Surgery

Sep 27, 2009 Emily Rogers

There are many choices when it comes to having breast augmentation surgery and it's important that individuals take time to understand their options.

More and more women who are unsatisfied with their breasts have been turning to breast augmentation surgery. Over the past ten years the surgery has become more accepted by the public and more women have become less hesitant to go under the knife. Even though this kind of surgery has become less invasive, it’s still very important that an individual take all the proper steps to understanding what is all involved and what to expect after breast augmentation surgery, before making a final decision.

Take a Look at all Possible Options for Breast Augmentation Cosmetic Surgery

When an individual chooses to have breast augmentation surgery, that person is choosing to take risks. Any kind of surgery has potential risks involved, although it’s a chance individuals are willing to take in order to gain something in return.

It’s essential that a person takes the time to prepare for a realistic outcome, as cosmetic surgery cannot make things perfect. Aside from understanding the potential outcome, it’s also important that before choosing to have breast augmentation surgery that the individual takes a look at all of their options before choosing what type of surgery they would most benefit from.

Breast Implant Placement

First, an individual must decide where they would prefer the breast implants to be placed. The most common method in today’s world is choosing to have breast implants under the muscle. An individual can benefit from taking a look at some before and after pictures of breast implants, as they can compare other patients and what they would like their potential outcome to be. There are several choices of where to place breast implants.

Sub-glandular implant placement positions the implants in front of the actual muscles and fibrous tissue which covers the front side of the ribs and chest wall. This allows for a much faster recovery; as only skin and fat are cut open, although the chances for breast augmentation rippling are usually higher with a sub glandular placement, than when placed under the muscle.

Partial sub-muscular implant placement is positioned behind the breast tissue and partially beneath the pectoral and other chest muscles. With this particular placement the implants take longer to drop into the pockets, therefore the patient must be willing to wait a while to see the final outcome. A good reason to undergo this type of placement is due to the fact that the appearances of the breasts are usually much more natural.

Full sub-muscular implant placement is completely positioned under the muscles. The implants are fully covered by the muscle and fascia, which acts as an internal bra. This often sets the implants a little higher than with any other placement. The recovery time may be a little more painful than with other placements, although the risks of capsular contracture or bottoming out or less likely to occur.

Breast Augmentation Scar

There are many different types of breast augmentation incisions and this is another important decision to be made when thinking of undergoing this type of surgery. The choices of incisions include:

  • Inframammary incision - This type of incision is done under the crease of the breast. The breast augmentation scar is located underneath the fold of the individual’s breast.

  • Periareolar incision - The type of incision is done around the nipple area and is placed along the outline of the areola (the brown or pink area neighboring the actual nipple)

  • Transaxillary incision - The breast implant placement is done through the armpit, the breast augmentation scar is located on the armpit area in order to be less visible.

  • Tuba incision - This incision is inside the belly button and is placed in the rim of the navel. This may make it harder for the doctor to place the implants, although the breast augmentation scar is less visible.
When an individual chooses to have breast implants placed through the armpit or navel, although the breast augmentation scar is less visible, the recovery time is much more painful than when placed in the crease or areola of the breasts.

There are many options to choose from when undergoing breast augmentation surgery and it’s important that individuals take into consideration each option and what the benefits would be. When choosing a doctor, it’s important for individuals to make sure to visit at least 2-3 cosmetic surgeons before making a final decision.

It’s important that individuals take the time to look at the before and after pictures of breast implants performed by each candidate, as the surgery is somewhat of an art. This helps individuals perceive realistic expectations and choose the right doctor for them. With today’s technology in cosmetic surgery, it is possible for individuals to have a positive outcome with breast augmentation cosmetic surgery.
