Homemade Perfume Recipe

How to Make Perfume at Home

Feb 29, 2008 Chrissy Dolezal

Make your own perfume, a great gift for you or for a special loved one.

Homemade perfume can be a great way to get creative with beauty products. Instead of trying to find the perfect fragrance at a department store, one can create their own. This perfume recipe is simple and easy to make. The scent is a choice for the creator.

This recipe will make one half-ounce of a solid perfume.

Supplies for Homemade Perfume:

  • 1 tablespoon of beeswax
  • 1 tablespoon of almond oil
  • 8-15 drops of essential oil (available at the local health food stores)
  • 1 container to store the homemade solid perfume in (glass will work best, but plastic will work too). The container can be as expensive or inexpensive as one would like; the choice is yours.
  • 1 straw
  • 1 small glass jar
  • 1 saucepan

Instructions for Homemade Perfume:

  1. Mix wax and almond oil in the small glass jar.
  2. With the saucepan, add about one inch of water. Put the jar from Step 1in the center of the saucepan. Bring the water to a boil. This will gradually melt the wax and mix the oil. When the wax is completely melted, remove from heat. Remember to use hot pads to avoid burns.
  3. With the straw, mix in the essential oil. Make sure to mix thoroughly. Some of the wax will begin to dry, so a straw is a perfect tool to use since it can easily be tossed.
  4. Pour the liquid wax in the final container. The perfume will harden in 30 minutes.

Using the Homemade Perfume

Simply apply the homemade perfume by rubbing a finger around the surface of the perfume and apply to wrists, behind ears, and anywhere else one desires to smell good.

Additional Tips for Making Homemade Perfume

  • The most expensive part of making your own perfume is the expense of the essential oils. If the budget is tight, simply make a simple, one-scent perfume.
  • Even though there is an expense to the essential oils, a little bit goes a long way. It would be easy to develop a small collection to play with and mix in different ways to make several different scents.
  • In the long run, making your own homemade perfume will always be less expensive than purchasing scents from the major department stores. Add the benefit of giving special, homemade gifts to all your loved ones.
  • With aromatherapy so popular now days, a little research on the internet can help cure any ills one may have. For example, add lavender to aid in sleeping and relaxing, citrus for energy.

I know you can purchase it online, just search it on Google. But I would think it could also be found at a craft store or healthfood store.
