Though summer is in full swing, it isn't too early to be readying your beauty bag for the finest looks in makeup that Fall 2008 has to offer.

In the world of beauty, it pays to be ahead of the trend. Designers debut their collections months ahead of time, while the rest of the world is focused on what is hot at the moment. Even though summer is in full swing, it is not too early to think about what you will be wearing this fall.

The makeup industry is almost always predictable. Fall always brings about the deeper, richer tones of burgundies, sables, and greys, while spring is sure to liven things up with its shades of pinks, bronzes, corals. The easiest way for a woman to update her makeup wardrobe is to choose one or two trends to update her look.

Trends For Fall 2008

Christopher Del Castillo, a senior makeup artist for MAC Cosmetics, advises that makeup trends for Fall 2008 will be all about subtle structure. Consider adding one or two of these makeup trends to your daily routine.

  • Contour Those Cheeks: Choose neutral tones and heavily contour the cheek area. This means applying the blush under the cheekbone instead of directly on it. It should be defined, but subtle enough to almost look like a shadow. Then, use a subtle blush on only the apple of the cheek. You want it to look like the color is coming from within. Choose one of the top five blushes to find the perfect shade for you.
  • Brows Are Back: After years of over-tweezing, the strong eyebrow continues to make a comeback. It was big in 2007 and will remain big in 2008. Eyebrows frame the face and enhance the eyes. Let your eyebrows grow back and have them professionally groomed into a shape that suits your face. Define the brow using an eyeshadow for a clean, complete look, without overdoing it.
  • Flawless Finish: While it has always been wise to use a foundation makeup that is virtually indetectable, this season it is one of the must-have items. Apply a liquid or cream foundation over heavily moisturized skin and then blend, blend, blend. If you have put off buying a foundation brush, now is the time to make that purchase. A foundation brush is the best way to acheive smooth, even coverage with little effort.
  • Color is Key: New York Fashion Week boasted a wide array of color on the catwalk, but the colors on nearly every runway were slate greys , charcoals, pewters, and the neutral brown-greys. Consider using a grey kohl eyeliner smudged across the lash line, or using it as an accent color in the crease of your existing eyeshadow palette.
  • Mascara is a Must: Mascara adds volume, color, and definition to your eyes. This fall, it's all about lashes. Apply three thin layers of mascara instead of one thick one. Almost anyone and everyone can wear black mascara. The true trendsetter will top it off with a pair of false eyelashes or a few strategically placed individual lashes.

Remember, the key to a successful season change is to not overdo the trends. Too many trends will instantly date a look, while adding only one trend will update is currently being worn Less is almost always more when shifting into fall. Choose to wear either a dramatic eye or a dramatic lip, but not both.
