Learning how to strategically apply your makeup will give you a youthful luminescent glow and will eliminate makeup caking into your fine lines and wrinkles.

Aging is an inevitable part of life. While some women embrace wrinkles and fine lines with honor as it represents life experience, the vast majority of women aren’t so keen on the idea. Generally, the problem areas on mature skin are a dull, matte appearance, fine lines and wrinkles. The biggest complaint that mature women have with makeup is the sinking into fine lines and the accentuation of wrinkles. Learning how to strategically apply makeup will give a youthful luminescent glow and will prevent makeup from caking into fine lines and wrinkles.

Moisturize

Appropriately prepping skin before applying makeup to the face makes all the difference in the final result. The most vital step in flawless makeup application for mature women is moisturizing. A woman should begin her makeup routing by gently cleansing the face with a cleanser appropriate for their skin type. Additionally, using a biweekly invigorating scrub or facial mask will get rid of dull skin.

Choosing a moisturizer that has been specifically formulated for the face is essential, as the percentage of grease and other pore clogging agents have been drastically reduced in facial moisturizers. To apply moisturizer, apply five small dots on the face; the areas to apply are the cheeks, chin, nose and forehead. Lightly massage skin and allow the moisturizer to be absorbed into the skin before continuing makeup application.

Silicone Primer

The easiest way to take five years of a mature face is to use a makeup primer; a silicone based makeup primer, that is. Aging skin benefits greatly from silicone primers because the primer sinks into fine lines, which in turn fills in the area and plumps the skin, leaving an even layer of skin for concealer and foundation to glide over.

Additionally, a silicone based makeup primer acts as a “primed canvas” to allow for colors to appear truer and for a lesser amount of product (foundation and concealer) to be used as there will be fewer crevices to fill. To apply primer, use the same 5-dot technique mentioned above (Moisturize).

Concealer and Foundation

Older skin tends to have redness, dark under eye circles and a dry appearance. While yellow toned concealers are the mainstream way to conceal under eye circles and redness, they’re not very effective. Because under eye circles tend to give off a bluish/green tone, the proper color to conceal under eye circles is salmon. As for concealing redness, the most effective color would be green. These concealer colors work perfectly for the selected areas because they are opposites of the problem colors on the color wheel.

Choose a liquid foundation that features light reflecting properties and silicone to further plump lines. Apply with a damp makeup sponge or foundation brush. Placing a highlighter at the very top of the cheekbones will give maturing skin the ultimate look of youth. Use a tapered blush brush to apply at the top of cheekbones and at the arch of the brows.
