Nature provides us with a bounty of pure, pristine oils that are highly effective and help to enhance our daily skincare regimen.
Generally, the most nutritious oils include two different extraction methods, cold pressed and expeller pressed. Temperatures are strictly controlled during the complete batching process of cold pressing; this is a mechanical extraction, which ensures the heat does reach more than 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit. Expeller pressed is a natural, mechanical extraction that requires a small amount of heat, usually around 120-200 degrees Fahrenheit, its (the oil) molecular state is fairly undisturbed. The oils extracted using these two methods maintain key nutrients and healing properties. Overly refined oils, often extracted with very high heat and/or the use of harsh solvents have fewer nutrients; therefore do not perform as well. Though cold and expeller pressed are the extraction methods of choice, they are for various reasons, not suitable for all oils. Superior oil for salad dressing, such as olive would include cold pressing of the fruit, the same theory applies to plant based oils used in skincare. Thus explaining the difference in pricing, cold pressed and expeller pressed are more costly to produce than the different methods used to produce refined oils. A natural product or ingredient that is organically grown will also be more expensive; however, being certified organic assures that the material used is free of herbicides, pesticides and other controversial additives. Although many skincare companies do not freely disclose what extraction method is used, it always benefits the consumer to become an avid label reader. Following are four beauty oils that are commonly found in natural anti-aging facial care products. These particular oils are also readily available for consumers to purchase in small amounts and use at home, which is even easier now that you know what to look for when buying them. Kalahari Oil - Restores elasticity, absorbs nicely and dissolves sebum buildup allowing the sebum to wash away. It is rich in omega 6 and 9 essential fatty acids and balances the moisture in the skin. Marula Oil - Rich in antioxidants and an excellent source for treating wrinkles. It penetrates deep, forming a wonderful coating while absorbing quickly as it hydrates the skin. It heals skin tissue, increases smoothness on the skin, reduces redness and reduces trans-epidermal water loss. Rosehip Seed Oil - Rich in vitamin C, minimizes wrinkles, regenerates tissue, easily penetrates the skin and is a superb, effective oil for anti-aging & skin rejuvenation. Not recommended for use with acne or oily skin conditions. Walnut Oil - Aides in the prevention of wrinkles and helps to regenerate, tone and moisturize damaged dry skin. Become familiar with the proper storage of oils and remember, when applying oils-less is best. Eating healthy, keeping our bodies properly hydrated and getting a good amount of exercise, can help to ensure that we experience the highest level of results from any beauty ingredient or product.
