Capture the essences of three legendary screen beauties with simple tricks and tips that recreate their most famous looks.

Sophia Loren, Mary Pickford, Audrey Hepburn - all three left their undeniably stunning marks on the silver screen. They certainly were all blessed with great genes, dressed in fine clothes and shot from the perfect angles under the most flattering lighting, but you can capture a taste of their beauty with these easy make-up tips...

Sophia Loren

The most sultry of all the cinematic sex kittens (onscreen and off) with her cat eyes rimmed in black, glowing skin and full flesh-toned lips. Put a little meow into your look with these easy tricks:

Bronzer in a cream or liquid formula will give your skin that kissed-by-the-sun glow. Apply it to your cheekbones, temples and the bridge of your nose and blend for the most natural look possible. Then give yourself a naughty flush with a medium toned rosy-pink cream blush on the apples of your cheeks. Blend it up towards your temples and down into the hollows of your cheeks for sensual cheekbones.

Apply a medium toned brown eyeshadow to your lashline and blend up to your crease. Using black liquid liner, line your upper eyelids with an extended swoop ending just past the outer corner of your eyes. Blend some black powder eyeshadow over the liner to soften the effect and for an even more dramatic effect brush some dark brown or black eyeshadow beneath the eye extending out to meet the liner. Use false eyelashes if you wish, or as many coats of mascara as you wish to achieve Sophia’s bedroom eyes.

To finish, apply a flesh-toned or nude lipstick or gloss.

Mary Pickford

America's Sweetheart and a legend of the silent film era, her soft enormous eyes, luminous skin and rosebud lips conveyed a girlish innocence and became the beauty ideal of the time. Get ready to bat your eyelashes and blush with these tips:

Using a pale, rosy cream blush, find the apples of your cheeks and apply. Make sure to blend it out slightly but keep most of the colour in the centre.

The key here is soft, innocent eyes. Softly smoke your eyes with a medium brown or medium grey-brown cream eyeshadow. Apply with your fingers a little at a time and blend around your lashline, no higher than your crease, and slightly under your eye, keeping the majority of the product at the outer corners. To make your eyes look as big as possible, you may line the inside of your eyes with a white or flesh-toned pencil. Curl your lashes and apply two coats of mascara.

Apply a lip stain for a rosy, just-kissed effect.

Audrey Hepburn

Known for her huge doe eyes, porcelain skin, and dark heavy brows, she epitomized the gamine look of the late 1950s and early 1960s. Capture the coquette-ish elegance of Audrey Hepburn with these simple tricks:

You don’t need to overdraw your brows to match the thick, dark brows that Audrey was famous for, just fill them in as you normally would and shape them using an angle brush and powder so that they’re slightly more rectangular in shape.

Apply a soft pinky-brown powder blush to your cheeks blending up to your temples.

Blend a light brown shadow from the lashline to the crease and use a highlighter on your brow bone. To create Audrey’s doe eyes, use a black liquid liner and draw a thick line from the inner corners to slightly past the outer corner. Do this in multiple sweeps rather than just one – it’s easier to add more than to take away. Apply a black or dark brown powder eyeshadow over the liquid liner once it's try to soften the effect slightly. If you wish to intensify the effect, you may use a dark brown powder or eyeliner and blend it into the lower lashline. You may also use a white or flesh-toned pencil to line the inside of the eyes for a slightly more exaggerated effect.

Lips should be kept neutral, so use a medium flesh-toned pencil and creamy lipstick.
