Toner is an all-purpose cleaner that will do more than beautify your face. Use it to enhance foundation, clean your ears and a host of other clever girl tricks.

A lot of women skip toner in their skin-care routine. The effects of it may not be as visible as moisturizer, and its purpose not as necessary as cleanser, but toner is a multi-purpose product that can solve a lot of your beauty dilemmas. Here are some uses:

After cleansing Swipe a toner-dampened cotton ball over your face after you cleanse to remove any dirt or makeup the cleanser missed. You'll be amazed what you see on the cotton. Yuck.

A cheat cleaner If you're really in a hurry but want to clean your face anyway, try a quick swipe all over with toner. Much better than falling into bed with makeup, and great for a mid-day cleaning too.

Enhance foundation This is a great trick for foundation wearers I learned years ago. Finish your makeup. Then use a cotton soaked in toner to dab your oily T-zone areas (left and right of nose, chin and forehead between eyes). It will give you a fresh, dewy look and help keep you oil free as well.

Clean your ears Nothing cleans the inside and outside of your ears like a bit of toner. Your mama's right about cleaning them in the shower, but go the extra mile after with your new all-purpose tonic.

Good smelling pick-me-up If you can think of no other reason to use toner, I've found one whose aroma makes me feel girlish, pretty and refreshed. It's enough to make me look forward to bedtime cleaning. Burt's Bees Rosewater and Glycerin Toner. Yummy.

Find a toner you like and get busy with your new skincare routine.
