Makeup Application Tips for a Gorgeous Summer Look

With the heat of summer, makeup can easily melt off leaving a not so glamorous look. Follow these summer makeup tips for the best look possible.

Heat can create havoc on makeup. Foundation melts, eyeliner smears, and an oily t-zone can make for a terrible look. By following these simple guidelines, makeup will last longer and look better even in the summer heat.

Use Less Makeup

A guaranteed way to have less makeup melting off during the hot summer months is to use less. Some easy cosmetics to cut would be to use less foundation or to switch from foundation to a tinted moisturizer. Concealer can also be cut or at the least limited. If the face becomes tan during the summer, the use of concealer will not be as necessary.

Cream Based Glamour Products

Cream based cosmetics stay on longer and do not clump on skin like powder formula cosmetics. Cream blush and eye shadows can be used very easily. Remember that less product is needed when using cream formulas. A great way to apply cream blush is by using the back of the hand as a palette and dab a small amount on the back of the hand. Using a sponge, blend a small amount on to the sponge and apply on the cheek.

For the eyes, apply a cream-to-powder eye shadow on the lid. Use a waterproof eyeliner and mascara, especially if participating in water activities.

Makeup Primer

Makeup primer is a must for ultimate staying power. There are different types of primers that can be used, foundation primer, eye shadow primer and lip primer. The foundation primer will help keep foundation, concealer, blush and powder on longer. A light layer goes on just prior to applying these products. The eye shadow primer can be used before or after foundation. Eye shadow primer is great for water eyes as well as oily skin. The lip primer can be applied right before applying lip products. Lip primer will also help prevent bleeding and feathering of lip products.

Mineral Based Glamour Products

Mineral based makeup is easy to find with many cosmetic companies debuting their own mineral line within their regular cosmetic line. With mineral makeup it is easier to use less while still covering imperfections. Mineral makeup has great staying power, making it a perfect match for the summer heat.

Blotting Papers

Carrying around blotting papers is the best way to control oil during the day. These light tissue papers will blot away excess oil without messing up makeup. Facial tissues can be used as well if unable to find blotting papers.

Lip Stain

Use a lip stain to give lip color staying power. Lip products can melt off or become sticky and uncomfortable. Apply a lip stain and then a light layer of lip balm will keep lips healthy and pretty.
