It seems like the moment girls come out of the womb they want to play with makeup. But when is an appropriate age for your teen girl to start applying cosmetics?
There is a lot of difference in opinion on when is a good time to start wearing makeup. Really there is only one answer. The appropriate age for cosmetics is between the teen girl and her parents. However, until she is over eighteen years old she should not wear heavy cosmetics.
Cosmetic companies these days are paying a lot of attention to their younger clientele, including creating whole lines just for teen girls, specifically for girls from twelve to eighteen of age. Some that come to mind include Mark by Avon, Velocity by Mary Kay, and the cosmetic company, e.l.f.
Teen girls can achieve an easy, natural look that will help enhance their appearance without over-powering their face with cosmetics. Unfortunately this is a time when most girls suffer from acne and may feel the need to cover zits. Also because of inexperience or their excitement to start wearing cosmetics, some girls just get carried away with everything.
Here are some simple makeup tips for teen girls:
- First start with foundation and cover-up. If you suffer from dark circles or other pigment problems you will want to start with concealer before foundation. If you are trying to cover up acne, then you will want to use concealer last. Carefully apply concealer specifically to the acne, not just in the area itself. A concealer brush is ideal for this. There are concealers on the market that also has medication in it to heal the acne and cover at the same time. If you have severe pigment problems and/or acne, get a foundation that is known for coverage such as Bare Minerals or Dermablend, instead of caking on your concealer and foundation.
- If you are a lucky gal and do not suffer from acne, try a tinted moisturizer and a pressed powder.
- Go easy on the eyes; there is no reason for a teenager to wear a lot of eye makeup. A couple of fun eye shadows will do wonders. Take a light shimmery color and apply all over the lid and add a thin line of eyeliner along the top lashes. If you would like to spice it up a bit with some fun colors, apply the shimmery color to the brow bone and the contour color to the lid. Great colors for everyone are brown, golds, purples and greens. Apply a light layer of mascara to the top and bottom lashes.
- Most teen girls have a natural pink tint to their cheeks so adding more pink to the cheeks isn’t necessary with blush. So try a bronzer, bronzers will add a little more natural color to the face.
- Finish up with some shimmery lip gloss and you are ready to go!
This simple look is great for teen girls just starting out with makeup. For the most part is mistake free and fits nicely in a makeup bag for when you are on the go. However if you do struggle or are just scared you are not applying your makeup right, feel free to contact a makeup consultant.

For some girls they use makeup to make them feel better about themselves. A
parent should let their daughter do whatever they want with makeup so they
can learn what looks best on themselves or what doesn't. Life is about
trial and error and to only let your girl use minimal makeup is just going
to create more problems when she rebels.

Your right, if your daughter wants to wear makeup, she will with or without
permission. But I don't think wearing or not wearing makeup will prevent a
rebellion.
I think it would work best if the parent sits down
with their daughter and talk about age appropriate makeup. If the
relationship is positive, the daughter will agree to the rules. If not,
than it is up to that parent what measures to take.

Great tips,I do them everyday... *Another tip:If you want your eyes to
appear bigger , never line the waterline of your bottom lid with dark
liners..instead try light liners , like peach.

I think the opposite of this. Kinda. I think bright fun eyeliners are
really cute! We all want that perfect skin. Bare minerals powder
foundation is awesome. Get the kit. Blush. Nice. But don't apply
to much. That should look natural. Play with the eyes! Smokey is very bold. As well as funky colors for eyeliners. Liquid stays longer than pencil. And liguid makes your eyes pop. Best of all confidence dresses it all up! So S M I L E! <3

The point is appropriate, natural makeup.
There is nothing
wrong with fun colors. The best part of makeup is getting to play with
many colors and have fun with it all.
But for a young girl
first starting out with makeup, giving her a bunch of bright colors to play
with probably won't be the best.
I think the best is to teach
her natural makeup application then show her how to kick up and add color.

Remember that these are teenage girls. Not grown women. Minimal make-up
will do for the appropriate age. Teenagers should maximize their natural
beauty and not be in such a hurry to grow up.

I think it depends on what your skin looks like at 13. If you are having
problems with acne or other skin issues, that foundation and concealer
would help. But if the skin is clear then I would skip foundation.

I'm a teen and I personally think natural looking makeup looks best. Plus,
my mom has never made me look like an idiot yet =). She gives me the best
tips. She didn't really care when I started wearing makeup. As long as moms
are nice about tips and don't say teens absolutely can't wear makeup, we'll
listen.

I think that idf you are a girl with acne then the bare minerals works best
by far. it doesnt clog your pores as bad. and it does not make brake outs
worse. the thing is is that if you have a really oily face it will cake up.
so u want to make sure that you wash your face and then use an astringent.
trust me girls i am a teenager and came across this and tried it, i have
really bad acne and it really does wrk!!!!
