Update Your Ponytail

Easy variations for curly, pinned, waved and sectioned ponytail hair

Get variety out of your ponytail by trying these simple new styles. Use curling iron, crimper, pins or a braid to change your ponytail hairstyle to a chic updo.

A ponytail is a hairstyle most of us can manage. Even if ponytails are the only updo you ever try, there are a lot of variations of this basic style that will take you from sporting events to sexy nights out. Here are a few simple tricks for making your ponytail a little more chic.

Style it Put your hair in a regular ponytail as you normally would, then style the tail. Here's a good time to bring out your tools. Try a curling iron, hot rollers, crimper, straight iron or waver to give your ponytail a new look.

Pin it Section off your ponytail into five or six sections. Starting at the end, roll each section around your finger, then secure it randomly to your scalp. You should have curls pinned in varying directions. A bit more formal, but also cute with sexy pajamas for a special night.

Multiply it This style is especially good for girls with a lot of hair. Pull the top section of hair into a high ponytail, leaving the rest free. Then gather the next section of hair below your ponytail and make a new one. Continue down to a third of fourth ponytail depending upon your hair volume. You can leave the tails hanging separately, or secure each one to the next so you have one ponytail made up of several smaller. This is a funkier style that will emphasize length and will probably hang down longer than your normal ponytail.

There's nothing wrong with your everyday ponytail either. A plain old elastic is fine, but you can also cover the elastic by braiding a section of hair and twisting that around the band. You don't need special skills to make a great hairdo. Enjoy your ponytail!
