I've never liked the way acrylics look, but I seem to be the minority. What is it with these fake nails that have become so popular? If you have them and love them (or don't because you hate them), please enlighten me!

I know many people who wear acrylic nails... I think it's a combination of peer pressure to have perfect nails, and lack of time to care for their real nails. Most of these girls work in jobs that break nails easily, and acrylics seem to hold up better. Personally, I don't like them. I think they're obviously fake, and that nails should be trimmed and colored according to lifestyle, not others' expectations.

I think you're right -- time is probably a factor, but I agree with you that beauty should only have to hold up to our own expectations. Good point!

In response to Acrylics posted by trevy:

Not on acrylics, but nails in general...I find I cannot be bothered with my fingernails. As an ex-wilderness guide, I really don't like anything on my fingers except a ring or two. I am considering seeing about getting my fingernails buffed, though, like men do. Do women ever just do that?

Now, my toes...that's something else. I actually indulge in girly colors and pedicures. I had my first pedicure a few months ago and loved it! Now it's a monthly indulgence.
